His professional career
as a house DJ kicked of 12 years ago and with his first recording release
'Break' he even managed to enter the Top 10 of the US Billboard Dance
Charts. Since then, he developed his funky techno/house sound
to what it is today. He succeeded to get a solid reputation as a DJ
outside of Holland by playing in countries such as Hungary, Israel,
USA, Turkey, Belgium, Spain, Germany and Great Britain. Two
years in a row, in June 1998 and 1999, Michel de Hey won the Update
Dance Award for Best Techno DJ of the Netherlands. His clubnight 'Future ' in Nighttown Rotterdam popped up in August 1995 and developed into a respected clubnight functioning as a musical indicator for the Dutch club scene. Since the foundation, Michel invited many national and international artists, and the night has been nominated 4 years in a row. Michel must be seen as one of the people who took responsibility for dance music and its direction in Rotterdam. With his talent both as a producer and as a DJ, Michel opened the door to techno/tech house for a lot of people. Next to playing at homebase Nighttown Michel is doing regularly returning gigs such as: MTC, Cruises to Pleasure, Mega Music Dance Experience, Club Risk, Now & Wow, Kozzmozz, Silly Symphonies, Chemistry, The End London, I-Love-Techno, La Rocca, Caf d'Anvers, Dancevalley@Amnesia and Haoman 17 Jerusalem, not to forget festival events such as Dancevalley, TNT, Impulz, New Frontier, Four Elements, Heineken Horizons and Lowlands. Any major party or club you visit in the Netherlands, Michel will be playing. Further Michel is to be found at cultural events such as the North Sea Jazz and the Gergiev Festival with on top of it the Heineken Fast Forward Dance Parade in Rotterdam. The first year about 100.000 people participated, in 1998 about 150.000 and in 1999 between 200.000 and 300.000 visited Rotterdam for the annual Dance Parade. Each year DJ Michel de Hey, chosen as media ambassador, produces the theme song for this Rotterdam Cultural event in co-operation with Grooveyard. This years 'Let the music be your guide' reached the Top-40-Charts. Michel's clubtechno record labels EC, Brave New World and CC Records are gaining popularity through several chart hits and floor fillers of which 'Mary Go Wild' by Grooveyard is another Dutch Top-40-Chart example. But it was not Michel's main objective to aim for chart hits when he founded the company. His labels are primarily respected throughout the dance music and club scene and are musically considered to be leading record labels in the Netherlands. Next to deejaying, managing his labels and assisting his artists Michel is busy producing. He started a project together with Literon of which the first release 'Mintage' came out on Plink Plonk Records UK. The follow-up 'Cloaked' now released on EC Records has been well received by press and DJ's with reviews in Seven Magazine, DJ Magazine, M8, Overload and Mixer US. Latest release Michel de Hey vs. Grooveyard 'Compound' is again highly appreciated by all top DJ's and press. Further Michel is working on various compilation projects. The major ones are the 'Essential Elements' and the 'Technological Elements' series (EDM). |
