Style
Despite his young age of 24, DJ Orkidea has been one of Finland's and Scandinavia's leading trance and progressive DJs for ten years.. He's been on the trance tip for quite a long time but he likes to spice up his sets with more housy sounds, breakz, acid, electro or whatever comes handy. At his residency at Club Unity in Helsinki he has also used a live drummer, pianist and a sax player alongside himself.

History
Orkidea's background lies in illegal squat after parties back in 1992 when he was 15. At that time he was playing mostly techno tracks with some influence from the early trance music. Then he started arranging his own after hour clubs such as Moon, Earth and Heaven, during years 1993, 1994 and 1995. For larger audience dj Orkidea became known from big finnish raves and the huge illegal after hours parties in Helsinki.

Orkidea has played practically every city, club and major electronic music event in Finland with a pace of over 100 gigs a year. Recently also Renaissance, Gatecrasher, The End, Sundissential, Prodigy, Platipus and MFS have used Orkidea on their tours to Finland.

Foreign gigs
During the last few years Orkidea's foreign gigs have been rapidly growing and he has played at such legendary venues as Tresor (Berlin, Germany), Pacha (Ibiza, Spain), Turbine (Stockholm, Sweden), Tunnel (St.Petersburg, Russia), Limelight (New York, USA), Club CODE (Tokyo, Japan), Nature One Festival (Frankfurt, Germany) and Roskilde Festival (Denmark) as well as some more exotic venues in Macedonia, Murmansk and Estonia for example.

At these parties in Finland and abroad Orkidea has been playing alongside such world class DJs as Sven Väth, Paul van Dyk, Robert Miles, Prodigy, Mark Spoon, Tiësto, Sander Kleinenberg, Timo Maas and Jose Padilla.

Records
Orkidea's recording career started with 'Unity' released in 2000 by London based Steelfish Records. 'Unity' was immediately in Top 10s of such legendary DJs as Paul Oakenfold, Sasha, John Digweed, Dave Seaman, DJ Tiesto and was also included on Renaissance, Gatecrasher and Forbiden Paradise compilations. Both Sasha and Paul Oakenfold used 'Unity' as the opening track for their BBC1 Essential Mixes on NYE 1999 and at Homelands 2000.

Remixes & label
After 'Unity' Orkidea has beeen busy doing remixes for such labels as Hooj Choons (Space Manoeuvres: Stage One remix as played by Paul Oakenfold on BBC), Perfecto (Jan Johnston: Flesh), Nettwerk (DJ Tiesto: Flight 643) and major labels like BMG, Warner and Sony (for example Bomfunk MCs and The Doors).

Early 2001 saw also first release of Unity Records run and owned by Club Unity and Orkidea. The first release was Slusnik Luna's 'Sun' which was immediately picked up by british Incentive Music for a release during summer 2001.

Orkidea Live & sound design
Orkidea has also done two Live PAs at Gatecrasher and Labyrinth 2001 in Helsinki with a live sets performing his own productions. These shows have combined ballet dancers, breakdancers, video art, MCs, live drummers and pianists to form a truly unforgettable experience...
